Style Step-Down?

I usually love any and everything Ms. Eva wears; I've been a fan since her "America's Next Top Model" days. But this mess right here? I can't. Between the hair, the lipstick, and the fact that she's hanging on the arm of Flo Rida......I can't. I understand switching up your style, but going from red-carpet fab to "Ghetto Malibu Barbie" chic? Nah, that ain't it.

I guess I should thank Eva though. Her snafu has inspired a new category for this blog. When If I catch any celebs slipping in the fashion department that are usually on point, they will have the honor of being featured in the "Style Step-Down" Hall of Fame.

For my own peace of mind, let's reminisce on the good ol' days:

Six Inch Walker.

I was on Twitter the other night and noticed that a lot of people I followed were making reference to a new shoe website called I'm always up for anything involving shoes, and the name implied that these would be dangerously high-heeled shoes, which had me even more excited. Curiosity got the best of me and I went to the website.

Within minutes of browsing, I had several shoegasms. Like the name says, all of the heels are 6 inches or higher (some were 5.5 inches, but that's close enough). Prices range from around $190-$1000, so shoe addicts from all income brackets can get their fix. Check it out here and let me know what you guys think!

Boxing Kitten Spring/Summer 2011

I came across photos of the Spring/Summer 2011 collection from Boxing Kitten and I immediately fell in love!!! I wrote this post on my other blog about a Boxing Kitten dress that Solange Knowles wore to an event last year. I had hopes of buying the dress, but unfortunately, "uglycleanbrokeness" was still in effect and I had to pay bills instead. :(

However, I've gotten some bills out of the way so I might be able to splurge a little and pick up a dress or two from the new collection. The line incorporated black and white into its signature colorfully patterned designs, and the results are tres chic. The dress pictured above is one of my favorite pieces. I think it is simply amazing! Here are some of the other looks:

Fab or Fail: Brandy's Braids

Singer/actress Brandy was spotted at an event recently, rocking the braids that she was known for back in her Moesha days. The braids were complemented with a simple black ensemble and her rumored boo thang Terrence J.

I think Brandy looks gorgeous with the braids. I would never wear this look myself, but it seems to "fit" her for some reason. The braids are definitely a better look than the tragic lacefronts she has worn for the past couple years. Plus, her makeup in this photo is flawless, and she has that all around "glow" (possibly due to the new love in her life?).

So what's the verdict? Do the braids work, or is this a style that even Brandy should have left in the 90s?

Spring Style.

I know it has been FOREVER since I posted on this blog, and I feel really, really, REALLY bad about it. But it's a New Year and I'm committed to getting this thing going.

First up! The holidays have passed and spring is slowly but surely approaching. I've done some browsing, and noticed that most of the trends seem to incorporate two very important fashion elements (in my opinion, at least): color and comfort.

Comfort is a huge factor for me when it comes to fashion. I may love how a top or skirt looks on a hanger, but if it feels like I'm going through an obstacle course just to try it on, I put it right back on the hanger.

Color is a favorite of mine as well. Some people shy away from lots of color, but I say embrace it! If you're the kind of girl (or guy) that normally wears all black or all neutrals, take baby steps. Start off by wearing your usual black or neutral ensemble and spice things up with a brightly colored scarf or pair of heels. You'll like it, I promise. :)

Here are some of my favorite looks for the Spring season:

Fashion No-No

I posted a while ago about a trend that I loved, but being the fashion critic that I am, of course I also have to speak on trends that I'm not too fond of. The word "hate" is a strong word so I don't want to use it for this topic, but I will say I have a strong distaste for several fashion trends. Today's pick?

Socks with heels

I've seen this look a couple times and was slightly irked, but didn't think much of it. However, the look was shoved in my face--and the faces of other fashio
n observers--when Rihanna showed up at Paris Fashion Week a couple weeks ago, in a floral print Miu Miu dress paired with red satin pumps and blue ankle socks.

The first thing that came to my mind was:

*Sad face*

I'm not sure if that's the look Rih was going for.......I know she has a reputation for being a trendsetter, but I pray to the fashion gods that this trend will not catch on. I can only imagine the headache I will get if I see some lost fashion soul strutting around the mall in ankle socks and platform heels. In my opinion, socks are meant for sneakers and boots only, and if you plan on rocking a pair of heels you should go bare-legged or slip on a pair of sheer tights. When I see a woman in heels AND socks, it makes me think that she doesn't know whether she's hot or cold, and that's a decision that should have been made BEFORE she stepped out of the house.

Maybe it's just me though. Do you guys think socks and heels are a good look, or a fashion no-no?

Blog Neglect

I know I have been neglecting this blog terribly. I appreciate the comments even though I haven't been posting regularly, and I feel bad because I made a promise to myself that I was going to get back to my fashion blogging grind.....and obviously I haven't.

BUT! That will change, soon. In the meantime, if anyone out there has any ideas or anything in particular that you'd like to see, feel free to leave a comment or drop me an e-mail. I think part of the reason I haven't been posting so much is because I don't want to do the exact same thing as every other fashion blog out there, because then what's the point of being a fashion rebel? :)
